Twenty-seven-year-old Daryl McCoy pleaded guilty in Brandon provincial court Thursday to charges of uttering threats and assault after he burst into a rage when his ex-girlfriend ripped down his Star Wars poster.
The court heard that on Jan. 21, McCoy, his ex-girlfriend and a mutual friend were at his residence when the friend took some money from his ex-girlfriend's purse and handed it to McCoy.
When McCoy didn't return the cash to her, she tore down the Star Wars poster from his bedroom door.
"She knew it was very important to him and that was one way to get to him," said defence lawyer Bob Harrison.
An incident report detailed that McCoy grabbed a pellet gun from his hall closet, pointed the gun at the woman and threatened her. He then hit her a few times in the head and face, pinned her against the wall and pushed her around.
Police arrested him later that evening, after the woman reported the incident.
"For a person … to retaliate for taking down a poster, it shows he has a low threshold for violent behaviour," said Crown attorney Ron Toews.
However, Harrison argued that collecting Star Wars material was a hobby to McCoy.
"I'm ashamed of everything that happened," McCoy told Judge Krystyna Tarwid before she gave him a two-year suspended sentence and ordered forfeiture of the gun.
The sentence further imposed conditions that he attend counselling such as anger management and partner abuse and perform 100 hours of community service.
"It's valuable in your eyes, but it is still a property," she said. "It's way over the top, no matter how valuable you find it."

Don't know about you guys, but this is a little extreme for a poster. Now, if it had been my autographed 12-back Vader, there'd most likely be a homicide involved, but that would be understandable. :shot: ;)

Maybe we're all reading the story wrong so far......

The guy is obviously an idiot.

If its a valuable poster, it should have been under glass or at least in a perspex wrapper of some sort, not tacked to the door like a note for the milkman!

He is clearly guilty of chronic collectable neglect!

Imagine if this fool had kids.....they would no doubt have written on it with crayon (or soda/ketchup etc) at some point. What would he have doone then, beaten the kids??? GRrrrrr :toed: :fume: :flame: :censored:

PS. If I was his girlfriends brother, he wouldn't have ANYWHERE to hide.
