Dagobah Diorama Complete

It has been a long time coming, but I have finally completed my Dagobah project. I have added "Failure in the Cave", better lighting, more landscape detail and a form fitting stand to support it since some of you have see it last.


The diorama is 4' wide x 2' deep x 33" tall and sits on a 30" tall stand. I have provided "scenes" as well as "making of" photos for your viewing pleasure.

Excellent work there! I've been going over how I would make a Dagobah diorama in the back of my head for a while now, and you've got some amazing ideas.

You've probably heard this before, but here's one idea I came up with in the kitchen: using spaghetti as vines. :p Hear me out--when you cook spaghetti, it becomes limp (duh) and can be positioned in any way you choose. When it dries out, it becomes thin again, but stays however you pose it.

True, real dried vines do look the most realistic. However, noodles could actually be draped over logs or other objects, without breaking.

Anyway, great job there. I'll have to keep an eye on your projects. :eye:

Would spaghetti work for vines? **Ruf scratches his head**. If you get the right kind of dried vines they are really flexible and of course... realistic. The vines I bought from Hobby Lobby had a natural wrap to them so I just hot glued them the way they were bent. Spaghetti would have a very uniform look to it without any parts branching off or the natural transition from a thick vine at the top of the tree to smaller divisions touching the swamp floor.

Plus where would you put the tomato sauce and meatballs?

Nice very nice. I was wondering did you use the lights you use for fish or something?...and whered you get the tree thingys

I don't think rufterrain has frequented the site since he posted his diorama back is 2004. However, you can probably contact him via his site, www.dagobahswamp.com

His site goes into a lot of detail on how he made the diorama, if I recall correctly. Also, I think I got to see this in person at one of the Celebrations...it's quite impressive. :cool:

Yeah. I haven't posted here in a while but I check to see what projects people are doing. My focus is working on my Stormtrooper armor and 501st stuff. I need to update my site with some of the new projects I have done.

Here is how I did the trees. Just limbs from my front yard with holes drilled in them and supported by dowel rods.

The lights are dollhouse lights and I wired in LEDs also. Everything plugs into the dollhouse light's power strip. You will see what I mean if you go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels and look in their doll house section.

The X-wing has yellow LEDs installed in the wings.

Luke's camp uses one blue LED and the power supply for R2 is just a doll house light mounted inside it.

The trick to all the wiring is everything is done from underneath. Behind the cave scene is a big open space full of wires that run up to the surface. I have never used it but the floor to Yoda's house drops down and out so I can put figures inside.

Since they came out with the Attakus diorama, I have thought about redesigning the base of mine to be similar and adding the large scale X-Wing instead of the small one.

And yes my model was at CIII. That was such an honor to have Niub Niub invite me. My wife wasn't happy with having to haul it plus Stormtrooper armor all the way to Indianapolis, but she was a good trooper.
