I'm guessing this is a new fad craze similar to "planking". 
There was another one down here in New Zealand a few months ago. The VW company ran a competition to win one of the new VW Beetles - to enter people had to upload a photo of them "Beetleing" (using their body to make the VW Beetle shape) in strange places.
