Dark Lord of the Typos
Today's collectible is The Wookiee Storybook, from 1979. Inspired, no doubt, by Chewbacca's family, as first seen in the infamous Holiday Special, this book features amazing artwork. Inside the cover is a cast of characters, to introduce the readers to everyone in the family. The story consists of three acts. First is a tale Itchy tells Lumpy of the Wookiee's origins, and Chewbacca's enslavement and eventual freedom with the help of Han Solo. The second act involves Lumpy's misadventures in Kasshyyyk's lower levels, hunting for wasaka berries, for Chewbacca's bicentennial birthday pudding. The final act includes Han and Chewbacca's arrival on Kasshyyyk, Lumpy's safe return, and a surprise birthday celebration for Chewbacca that would put any Ewok party to shame.
The illustrations are fantastic, and take inspiration from the movies, Ralph McQuarrie's paintings, and real life creatures. The story takes quite a few liberties that do not fit into modern continuity, but makes for an entertaining tale. Points of interest include Wookiee thought waves (use the Force, Luke, or just get an adult Wookiee to call for help), a small one-man explorer craft that launches from the back of the Millennium Falcon, and Wookiee casseroles.
