Aurra Sing's name

OK, I was watching the ultra-cheesy Flash Gordon film on the Sci-Fi Channel last saturday(it's a guilty pleasure of mine! ), and started to wonder: Was Aurra Sing partly named after the MEGA-HOT Princess Aura, daughter of Ming the Merciless?

After all, George Lucas always did want to make Flash Gordon, and throughout the film, it had little tid-bits of info- one of them being that Lucas decided to make Star Wars after Dino De Laurentis got the rights to Flash.

I too watched the ultra-cheezy Flash Gordon last Saturday. And before that, I caught the first Highlander. It must have been Queen week on Sci-fi.

I know Flash Gordon is an influence for Lucas, so I don't think it's a stretch to say that's where he got the Aurra name from. Thankfully, Queen doesn't seem to be an influence on John Williams. :smooch:

Hey! Queen rule!!

Ironically, Prince Vultan(Brian Blessed, aka Boss Nass)of the Hawkmen in Flash Gordon utters the line near the end "Who wants to live forever?" And of course, Queen went on to do that song in Highlander!

I never called anyone cheezy. Although with Flash it's undeniably cheezy.

My only statement was that I was happy that STAR WARS was, is, and will be Queen-Free.

Another One Bites the Dust doesn't mesh well w/ saber battles...
