It appears that AOTC will bring in more $$$ for it's opening weekend. Check the numbers out here.

I know that these numbers can be massaged in any way you would like but here is my version of the opening weekend.

AOTC opened on 1500 fewer screens than Spidey but has an extra day to add to it's weekend numbers...

AOTC
_______Thursday______Friday______Saturday______Sunday*
_____$30,141,417__$25,200,000__$32,250,000___$28,700,000
_____$30,141,417__$55,341,417__$87,591,417__$116,291,417
Screens__3100_________6200_______9300________12400

Spidey
_______Thursday______Friday______Saturday______Sunday
_________NA______$39,406,872__$43,622,264___$31,814,980
_________NA______$39,406,872__$83,029,136__$114,844,116
Screens___NA_________4600________9200________13800

So it looks like AOTC will have about 1.5 million more for it's opening weekend and although it does have an extra day to get there it is still on 1400 fewer screens than Spidey was.

*estimated Sunday total

Yes, but my point is the number of theaters that it was shown on. Even on fewer screens, it makes more money.

Ignore the gross total. Look at per screen revenue, where AOTC is the hands down winner.

who cares

Does it really matter?? This movie was flat out awesome and is now my favorite Star Wars flick. If you want to count numbers though, lets see what it does by the end of the year! And on another note, I think EpsiodeII will make more money from MERCHANDISING than from anything else as long as there are 12 year olds trapped in a 31 year old body;)

The number of theaters came from the bit of news in this thread

http://forums.thebothanspy.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1897

Since this post, I have seen different figures that were much lower than the one that i used to come up with this. The Sunday estimate was something that was posted at the washingtonpost.com.

Later today, I'll see if I can get more accuate figures and update this thread.
