25th Anniversary Set "final Duel" Vader/obi-wan

Hey guys,
as promised I was able to get a hold of the third set of the Silver Anniversary packs, this one "Final Duel" as the previous ones is another triumph by Hasbro.

"Final Duel" captures one more time the essence of the films as it is the confrontation of the two nobles Jedi knights, Obi Wan and his former padawan now seduced to the dark side, Darth Vader. The duel will determine the fate of the Galaxy.

Here is a review on the set including presentation, accessories/sculp and articulation.

PRESENTATION: As with the other two previously made sets, a hexagonal shape was given to the package. Top and bottom plastic ends are included, giving its contends secured support. A big clear windows wraps the package entirely. This particular set offers a backdrop of an open door of the Death Star with the Millennium Falcon in the background.

BACKDROP: In order to display the set with its backdrop, the stand it comes with must remain within the bottom plastic end of the package as it is only there where you will find gaps for the flaps of the backdrop to go into. The stand itself does not offer support for the backdrop. This also applies for any of the previous sets.

BEN OBI WAN KENOBI

ACCESSORIES AND SCULPT: Kenobi comes accessorized only with his blue lightsaber which has been finely detailed.
His face is the exact same sculpt as the one used for the previous POTJ line figure; this one in particular appears to have a lighter skin color. The rest of the figure is indeed, a complete new sculpt. His tan robe and brown cloak
(not removable) are two separate pieces, including the "great-fit" hood which can be slightly pull back revealing more of Kenobi's head. The entire outfit has been given a "lift up"; there are more wrinkles, more detail more realism to it. Obi Wan's boots are also a new design with more detail on the soles and heels.

ARTICULATION: Again, being more of a specific scene figure than a basic one, there are little "poseabilities" possible. Ben is articulated at the head (which can be easily turned, despite the hood over it), at the waist, shoulders and hands. This last one gives the figure the ability to hold the saber in an array of positions. He is not articulated at the legs.
I took the time to line up every single Kenobi produced since 1995 and compared them. This is without a doubt of one of the best, if he isn't in fact the best one made yet.

DARTH VADER

ACCESSORIES AND SCULPT: The Sith Lord comes accessorized with his red lightsaber and a cape which can be removed. Vader may also appear to be shorter than previous ones but it is not the size of the figure and only the pose given to it what causes this optical illusion.
A very nice work was done to his gloves, chest plate, belt and cape; lots of detail there. As with Obi-Wan's figure, Vader's cape shows more of a realistic look to it including wrinkles and even there is a molded on silver chain going from side to side of the cape as if it was holding it in place. his helmet has the right proportioned and it shows purplish eye lenses.

ARTICULATION: Vader shows articulation at the head, shoulders, hands and waist. His head rotates easily with or without the cape underneath it. His hands allow for different ways to hold the saber as they move around with ease.
there are two downsides on the figure. One, Vader is not articulated at the legs; two, he will not stay up unless he is hooked on to a peg. besides this problem, the figure looks great.

I give "Final Duel" a third place when compared to the two previous ones, with Han Solo and Chewbacca in "Escape from the Death Star" being number one.

Now, scroll down this thread and see this set "first hand." Don't forget to post your opinion.

Until next time,

Ishi Tib
