Petition for the original films

Dunno if this will have any effect on the Flannelled One, but it's worth a shot...

Few science fiction films have achieved the success and renown of the original Star Wars trilogy. Currently, George Lucas has no plans to release the original theatrical cuts of Episodes IV, V, and VI on DVD. To be replaced by completed versions of the Special Editions released in 1997, these classic pieces of science fiction and film history will be allowed to fade away into obscurity.

Our goal is to persuade Mr. Lucas to reconsider his decision. If you want the original theatrical cuts of the Star Wars trilogy on DVD, read and sign the petition now.

Yeah, we know this is going to get some people's undies in a bunch again... but we can say with some confidence now that when Lucasfilm and Fox release the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD in September, the films ARE going to include new footage...

Click the above link to read the rest of that report as well as others concerning the upcoming OT DVD release.

Well, if it's going to be the SE versions, they might as well go all out and add more new stuff.

Yeah... It would be nice if some of the new stuff could be "fixes." Like removing the Emperor's "slugs" in JEDI, a better Jabba in ANH, and restoring the confrontation between Han and Greedo.

I would imagine some of the "fixes" are intended to bridge the gap between E3 and E4 (or couse those might be saved for the super-ultra edition that comes out sometime after E3).

Star Wars specs are trickling in

Since Lucasfilm denied the usenet posters their annual chance to announce Star Wars on April 1st, the company as kind enough to post some legitimate information on the set.

The first three discs will contain only the films in either anamorphic widescreen or fullscreen. Audio options will be in Dolby Digital EX, and Dolby Surround 2.0. Commentaries will be included on all three films. Episode IV will feature voices from George Lucas, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren, and Carrie Fisher. The Empire Strikes Back will feature George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, Lawrence Kasdan, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren and Carrie Fisher. Return of the Jedi also include George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren and Carrie Fisher. The forth disc, is not entirely finalized, but will contain an extensive documentary on the trilogy as well as behind the scenes footage.

The set has also received a suggested retail price of $69.95.

I don't have a problem with the "special editions" being released. What annoys me, is that the original versions will not be. All bonus material asside, that is the biggest missed opportunity.
