The best film is with no doubt a New hope. I has everything. Han solo, Chewie, Luke, Ben,Ucle Owen, aunt beru. The only thing the movie don't have is a great fighting scene. Ben VS Vader isn't the best action scene. But better than two other.

Empire of course! How do you beat the Battle of Hoth, or the asteroid chase? And we are introduced to two Star Wars icons - Yoda and Boba Fett. Has there ever been anything more dramatic than Vader's revelation to Luke?

Empire rules, it is so dark... It has the best cliffhanger too! Yoda rocks, Vader invites Han and Leia for breakfast, Han gets frozen in carbonite, it has it all! And Han kisses Leia, its just great!

You can look at the New Jersey trilogy (now 5 movies, but it's still somehow a trilogy?) to back up your point. This is from CLERKS, by Kevin Smith, and is spoken by none other than Dante Hicks:

Dante Hicks: "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

It really is hard to pick a true favorite but I would have to go with ANH because it is the one that started it all for me. I was almost 4 years old the first time I saw it in the movie theater.
I love all of the films though. If I had to break it down it would go like this...

1) A New Hope
2) The Empire Strikes Back
3) The Phantom Menace
4) Return of the Jedi

Let's hope Attack of the Clones kicks some serious butt and ranks up there at the top.

The Battle of Hoth could not have been done better, even today with all the advanced special effects. Vader was at his very best or was is baddest? Great film!:shocked:

A New Hope.

Simply because it started it all. I'm old enough (47) to remember many of the movies before Star Wars and nothing had ever been done like this! The special effects were just awesome! And it was a simple yet at the same time great story. I grew up watching Jason and the Argonauts, Hercules, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, etc. Star Wars for me was all of these movies rolled into one!

Empire, hands down. Irvin Kershner was the best choice for the job!
Then I would have to say ANH, EP1 then ROTJ.
Ah hell, I loved them all! Can't wait till EP2!

A new Hope rocked! Watching this new magical world unravell for the first time. Jawas and their crawler, Sand People, Lukes land speeder as a toy.

All this world unfolding before your eyes. Trekkies were in shock! Many changed their religion in the dawn of this new creation. From this creation.......the birth of the Millenium Falcon.:evil:

Empire Strikes back definately had more action and some great new characters but the one that started it all holds the cards at my table.
