Starwars Galaxies

New Recruit
The new starwars multiplayer game looks great. I wonder how much it will cost and how high the requirements are for playing. I mean how big the requirements for the cp.

I wonder when it is gonna come out in Europe. I hope soon because i'm going the get adsl. The images from the game looks relly great, so detailed and the programmers say that the images is taken from the game and the only thing they have added are the logo. If that is true this is gonna be a very good game.:saber:

I have heard a lot of good things about Star Wars Galaxies. I haven't caught any updated info but if and when I do I will post it on here. It looks to be a very awesome game.

From what I understand, it's somewhat like Everquest (built by the same guys at least). I never played Everquest, so I really couldn't tell you how close to that game this will be. They're both *Massivley Multi-Player*. Basically, you can create a character and just run around this *galaxy* doing stuff with him. So if you wanted to be a bounty hunter, then that's what you'd do...run around collecting bounties. I had read that becoming a Jedi is also possible, but not easily obtained.

You're right, the graphics do look very nice.

As for the system requirements, I don't think they have those out yet. The game is going to be in development for quite a while longer, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I hadn't heard anything new about it yet. Go here or here to read about it. That's where I'm heading. :)

Tristan to the rescue!

Good thing I'm here guys!

Here's the skinny.

Galaxies is *not* expected to be released until sometime after Ep2 (I will not call it by the name... will not!)

You will have 7 species to choose from for player characters:
humans, wookies, Mon Calamari, Rodians, Zabrakians, Trandoshans, and uh... Bothans! They will add more races eventually.

No offense Borsk, but I hate Bothans...

But anyway, You can choose from 3 affiliations for your character: Rebel, Imperial, and Independent. Eventually they will introduce such factions as Black Sun, the Hutts, etc...

From what I've seen The game will be set mostly on Tatooine with new planets cropping up once in a while.

Jedi and other Force-Sensitive classes will be available.
Sith seems highly unlikely.

Special note about Bounty Hunters. If a character is Independent or Imperial (at least outwardly, deception is possible.) Then for a certain amount of credits your character can become a Bounty Hunter.

In game terms, you are a player killer killer. Got that?
If Fred the Smuggler is killed by Bob the Rodian in game then Fred's player can post a bounty on Bob. Bounty Hunters can then legitimatly hunt Bob down and either capture of kill him (depending on the terms of the bounty). The BH also gets experience and the monetary value of Bob.

How cool is that? And also, if the BH follows the proper rules of the hunt then Bob's player will be unable to post a bounty on them.

Betcha wish the moderators here at thebothanspy.com had that ability, don't ya?

Anyways, that's all I know so far. It just ticks me off that when the game is finally out, I will no longer have regular access to an internet capable computer.

I'll also add that they're planning on making a series of add-ons to the game that will increase the number of planets, allow for new ships, etc. So, not everything will be included when the game is actually released.

I'll say it again though...this game looks very, very cool.

I'm obviously not going to post a review of the game, but if you follow the links in my previous post, you'll find very good information at the official sites. Thanks for the post Tristan.

Which abilities to we need?? The ability to hunt down our members and get money and experience for it? Sounds good to me!

Speaking of add-ons

Here's an add-on to my previous post.

Lately in the Star Wars Gamer magazine they had some sample Star Wars Galaxies characters. Now these characters were very similar to D20 Star Wars characters except it appeared that there were extra character classes (or they might have been prestige classes) such as the Jedi Investigator.

More Info

I was over at Gamespot and they have an article up about SW: Galaxies.

Here's the bulk of it:
Several servers for the game have recently been activated, and the development team is currently able to go online with the game to test server performance and capacities. In terms of the game itself, the combat system has not been implemented yet. "Right now, you can't take out your lightsaber and fight with it," McDaniel admitted. However, the development team is currently optimizing the texture detail and creating the character models, which McDaniel says will be "highly realistic" for the genre. Star Wars Galaxies, which originally had a tentative Q3 2002 release date, has now been pushed back one quarter and will be released near the end of 2002.

So it will be *at least* another year before it's released. I would bet on it being longer than that, but hopefully before E3 is released. :)
