DETAILED PICTURES AND REVIEW

The upcoming wave of Deluxe figures from Attack of Clones will be in stores in less than a week. Composed of four different characters, this first Deluxe wave for the all new Star Wars Saga line gives us good features but also some bad ones ...

DARTH TYRANUS AND OBI-WAN
WITH FORCE FLIPPING ATTACK

Although they do offer a good amount of playability I can't help myself but to feel somehow disappointed with two of the sculpts: Darth Tyranus and Obi-Wan.

Here are the reasons:

1- Their lightsabers are not removable but rather molded onto their hands, giving them a very cheap look; not even their blades can be removed.

2- The magnets under their feet, which are meant for the figures to rest securely on their "force flipping attack" bases, stick out a lot and are not painted, making them very visible.

3- The included bases feature a launch pad with a couple of slots and two metal prongs where the figures need to be placed. By pressing down on the launch pad and then pulling on the button behind it, the figures will flip in the air and supposedly land on their feet at the center of their bases BUT such feature doesn't work. No matter how many times I tried and how many different poses I gave both figures to alter the flip, they always landed butt first.

4-Both figures are articulated at their right wrists but such thing is practically useless due to their extreme poses

On the positive side, these two characters and their accessories display nicely when put together. Each of their flipping bases are composed of three parts, including a metal center platform. Placing both figures on just one of these center pieces and putting away the other two parts, will create a nice custom base where both characters can be posed in a fighting stance, remaining securely attached to it by the magnetic force under their feet; also will take less shelf space.

JANGO FETT
WITH ELECTRONIC JETPACK AND SNAP ON ARMOR

The bounty hunter is a nice sculpt and gratefully accessorized with just one downside, the huge hole on his back. But this is necessary in order to attach the electronic jetpack with real movie sound the figure brings.

Jango Fett is articulated at the biceps allowing him to hold a second accessory, his blaster rifle, with ease. The rifle includes a projectile which can be inserted into the top front part of weapon and pushed at his other end to launch it. His pair of blaster pistols are also included, and will fit in his hands snugly, without falling off.

A moveable targeting rangefinder on Jango's helmet and a detachable body armor create the final touches on the list of accessories. Three parts are included for the armor: an energized blast dissipation vest and right and left arm wrist gauntlets. These three pieces comfortably fit the figure; they remain securely in place and do not give him a bulky appearance

MACE WINDU
WITH BLAST-APART BATTLE DROID

This one is my favorite as far as the sculpt of the character and likeness are concerned, plus the inclusion of a Battle droid with blaster rifle is the icing on the cake.

Mace Windu is accessorized with a strong and detailed purple lightsaber and the saber's blade can be removed. The lightsaber can be "force attracted" by placing Windu's left hand over it. The hidden magnet in his hand will cause the effect.

Also included with the figure are two interchangeable force blasts. A rounded yellow blast which can be inserted into his right sleeve. When the blast is pointed towards the Battle droid and pulled back and released, the small spring within the Jedi's sleeve will propel it and the droid will come apart once the blast hits it. The upper body and head of the droid will dismembered.

The second force effect is shaped like an "U" and can be attached to the Battle droid's torso; its other end then gets inserted into Mace Windu's sleeve. By pulling back on the effect and releasing it will "force push" the droid, making it come apart.

Only one downside on this set is to be noticed. The battle droid was produced using very soft plastic materials; this will in fact be of some concern as it is very hard for the battle droid to remain standing, also the lack of peg holes makes it even worse to obtain an upwardly position. If you want my advice do what I did; drill some tiny holes under the droid's feet with a small drill bit. This will allow for the figure to be mounted on a stand and the problem will be solved.

Well, there you have it. As we any of the previous lines there are good and bad elements involving the final product. But hopefully the bad will become less and the good will prevail.

Check out the following detailed pictures of this wave and enjoy!

Until next time ...
