School kids' survey

The local newspaper yesterday had a news item about a research study that was conducted over 2000 British school children aged 6 to 12 years old. According to the results of the study ...

  • 17% thought that Darth Vader's Death Star from Star Wars is the furthest planet from Earth.

Well, it is "in a galaxy far far away". ;)

Some of the other "facts" they believe are ...

  • 20% believed Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear was the first person to set foot on the moon rather than Neil Armstrong.

  • 20% thought 24's Jack Bauer was the brains behind the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the British Houses of Parliament.

  • 67% correctly identified malaria as Cheryal Cole's illness.

  • 67% correctly identified David Beckham as being the most recent player to be dropped by Fabio Capello.

  • 33% did not know Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. 9% believed it was TV personality Noel Edmonds and 20% thought it was Charles Darwin.

  • 17% thought that Darth Vader's Death Star from Star Wars is the furthest planet from Earth.

  • 5% thought Christopher Columbus discovered liposuction, not America.

  • 10% wrongly believe personality Rolf Harris painted the Mona Lisa.

It's great to see schools keeping up the "good" work. ;)
