With so many Hollywood superhero films coming or in development, some may be surprised to learn that not all comic books depict lone heroes reacting to traumatic events by donning costumes and attitudes.

For more than six decades, the super-team has been one of the industry's bread-and-butter products and a way for readers to see their favorite heroes in action. Though the general concept remains the same — heroic figures uniting to face threats to Earth's safety — no two super-teams are alike. Some are friendly, others brood. Some fight the bad guys or each other, while others fight to remain in the headlines. Some rush to battle evil, while others insist on taking votes intended to keep their team out of certain battles.

Star Wars, A Long Time Ago ... Volume 5/Fool's Bounty by various authors and artists (Dark Horse Comics, 380 pp., $29.95)
«
In Fool's Bounty, characters from George Lucas' original Star Wars film trilogy work together to search for Han Solo (frozen and carted off by armored bounty hunter Boba Fett). Set between Lucas' The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, these adventures aren't terribly surprising, original or provocative. But they are wholly enjoyable. In addition to artwork by legendary artists such as Carmine Infantino, the late Gene Day and Renaissance man Klaus Janson, Fool's Bounty introduces characters who inject subtle anti-space-war sentiments into the saga as well as concepts that resemble a few seen in Lucas' second film in the trilogy. Fans of the Star Wars films, or readers in search of thought-provoking, entertaining and fun-to-read stories, will enjoy this latest volume of hard-to-find tales.
