Today's collectibles are Star Wars cookie boxes from Pepperidge Farm. These were released in 1983 to coincide with Return of the Jedi. The three different flavors (Vanilla, Chocolate, and Peanut Butter) each had five unique character shaped cookies. As one of the few vintage food related items you could buy in grocery stores, it's amazing the amount of detail and marketing that went into this line. In addition the 3 different boxes containing a combined total of 15 different character cookies, there were in store displays, print ads (with taglines like "Can a Wookiee be a cookie?"), television commercials, and premiums. You could mail away for a set of four plastic cups, and a fifth cup was available in stores free with a purchase.

These boxes are not uncommon on ebay, although usually flattened. For unopened boxes, it is recommended that you open them and dispose of what is left of the cookies, in order to prevent pest issues. The cookies themselves loose their shape and detail with age...so it is unlikely that they could somehow be saved or restored.
