Today’s collectible is the Star Tours Boarding Party action figure boxed set. This item is exclusive to Disney Parks and stores. For those not familiar with the Star Tours ride, it is a flight simulator. The concept is that you are a tourist about to embark on a sight-seeing outing (Star Tours), and your shuttle gets knocked off course. You wind up in the middle of several well-known battles from the original trilogy. The rides are currently closed, as they are being updated after more than 20 years of operation to, no doubt, include new special effects and situations seen in the prequels.
This figure pack is pretty cool, as it includes two brand new figures, and one significant repaint. Kaink and Teek are characters from the Ewoks movies (aka Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor). The Star Tours Flight Crew member is a repaint of an Imperial crewman. Chewbacca and Ree-Yees have seen previous release, and are just along for the ride. Ree-Yees does include a nifty new camera accessory though.
Disney has had a number of exclusive figures, including several droids seen throughout the Star Tours rides at various Disney parks around the world. Some of them were later packaged in a box set similar to this. Another previous offering was a Jedi Training Academy, including a Jedi Master and several padawans, inspired by the interactive Lightsaber Training stage show at the Disney parks.
